Trading Partner: Henry Schein

Henry Schein is a global distributor of healthcare products that utilizes a third-party partner to manage Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) compliance testing on their behalf. To add Henry Schein as a Trading Partner within your EDI network, you will need to complete compliance testing through the SPS Commerce Testing & Certification portal before your connection can go live.

The sections below outline the EDI IDs used by Henry Schein, the preliminary steps required before testing begins, the portal testing process, commonly used transaction types, and next steps following your plug-in purchase.

EDI IDs

Henry Schein utilizes the following Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) IDs for identification purposes. These EDI IDs are made up of a Qualifier and an ID which will be sent within their Interchange Control Header, ISA segment, on your inbound transactions. This allows Transaction Manager to identify the Sender and Receiver of any sent/received EDI transaction.

The table, below, lists the most common EDI IDs used by Henry Schein.

Henry Schein will expect a specific EDI ID based on your business relationship with them. Selecting the wrong EDI ID will result in EDI Transactions not being sent or received.

You will need to work with Henry Schein to determine the proper EDI ID to use.

Preliminary Steps

Henry Schein uses a third-party company, SPS Commerce (SPS), to conduct compliance testing on their behalf. Before testing can begin, engage with your SPS Commerce Account Representative to ensure your testing agreement has been signed and that you have access to the SPS Commerce Testing & Certification portal.

For further instructions, refer to our SPS Implementation Guide.

Once access is granted, complete the following steps:

  • Login: to the SPS Commerce Testing & Certification portal

  • Navigate: to Testing & Certification → Dashboard

  • Select: Henry Schein from the Active tab on the Dashboard

  • Review: Acknowledge the EDI Specifications

  • Enter: Test setup details:

    • Connection Method type- VAN

    • VAN Name - TrueCommerce

  • Enter: Test transaction details and test transaction item details

  • URL for the SPS Commerce portal

  • Username for the SPS Commerce portal

  • Password for the SPS Commerce portal

  • Review all steps in the SPS Commerce Testing & Certification portal, as each step will require information to be entered before testing can proceed. If you need any assistance completing the portal steps, your assigned Implementation Specialist is available to help.
