In previous versions of the installer for Sage 100 Standard and Advance users were only provided with the option to install under a ProvideX option (with SQL being reserved for Sage 100 Premium installations).
As of Sage 100 2024 the Standard and Advance version of Sage 100 now also includes the option to leverage SQL Connections which will be prompted when installing.
If you are upgrading from a previous version of Sage 100 you will want to confirm which version Transaction Manager is configured prior to the upgrade to avoid interruptions in your Transaction Processing
ProvideX vs SQL
ProvideX is an extension provided with the Sage 100 installation system that allows provides a Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) driver that Transaction Manager utilizes to safely connect to Sage 100 through a controlled system and is the standard operating procedure for Sage 100 Standard and Advance customers recommended by TrueCommerce for maximum compatibility.
TrueCommerce does not install nor maintain the ProvideX installation - but will configure and assist with the ODBC Driver itself
A SQL however is a direct to database writing that has traditionally been reserved for Sage 100 Premium installations that requires Transaction Manager to have direct access to the SQL Server with System Administrator permissions to operate.
Checking Current Configuration
Before you begin upgrading your Sage 100 Standard and Advance to the 2024 version (or higher) you will want to confirm which version of Sage 100 you are currently utilizing to ensure you do not accidently break the connection between Sage 100 and Transaction Manager which can result in the delay of processing transactions.
Navigate: Business System β (Company Name) β Company Configuration β Integration Options
Locate: SQL Server Setup group (May not be present)
If your SQL Server Setup group is either missing or has no data filled out the Server, User, and Password forms then Transaction Manager will automatically look for, and leverage the ProvideX ODBC on the local machine processing transactions.
If the SQL Server Setup has data filled into it, including the Server and User then Transaction Manager will attempt to utilize those credentials to access the SQL Database ignoring the ProvideX connection.
It is recommended to install the version of Sage 100 Standard and Advance following the current configuration.
If you wish to switch from ProvideX to SQL you will need to submit a support case and confirm with your Support Person prior to upgrading
Missing SQL Server Settings
If your SQL Server settings are absent from the Integration Options page then the TrueCommerce Support team will need to update your Transaction Manager system before you can switch.
