Product: Dynamics 365 Business Central

In order for TrueCommerce to be able to create your Advanced Ship Notice (ASN) within the Transaction Manager platform, your Shipment within the Dynamics 365 Business Central system must first have its items packed so that the ASN structure can be created to match the EDI requirements from the Trading Partner.

Each Trading Partner expects some sort of structure to the ASN that defines how the physical shipment has been sent, whether it has been put on a pallet or inside a pack/carton, and how many items fit within that particular pack, for example.

Accessing a Shipment

TrueCommerce leverages Dynamics 365 Business Central's Shipments in order to create an ASN. To find a Shipment you can easily search for the Posted Sales Shipments and select the option under the Archives group.

Package Details

In order to access what your ASN will look like you will need to navigate to the Package Details page that shows how your Shipment has its items packed.

Navigate: Shipment → Related → TC Package Details

Locating the Package Details (ASN)

The Package Details Screen

From within this page you can view your Pallets, Packages, and Items in order to determine how the resulting ASN will look when pulled into Transaction Manager.

Creating Shipments

Since the native Shipments from Dynamics 365 Business Central carries most of the information that an ASN needs, your ASNs are generated from those Shipments, with the TrueCommerce module simply extending the Shipments that allow for packaging/structural information of the ASN to be generated.

While this is a Dynamics 365 Business Central process and depends on your business process, there are two primary ways to accomplish this. If you have any questions you will need to discuss with your internal team or your VAR to determine the best method.

Manually

While inside a Sales Order you can post a Shipment through the Actions → Posting group in order to generate a Shipment which will in turn generate a Posted Sales Shipment.

Warehouse Shipping Advice (945)

If you receive Warehouse Shipping Advices (945s) from your Warehouse or 3PL you can export them from Transaction Manager and an Invoice and ASN will automatically be created from the data provided by your Warehouse/3PL.

Often, you will send your Warehouse/3PL a Warehouse Shipping Order (940), which is generated by importing the Sales Order from Dynamics 365 Business Central and sending it to your Warehouse/3PL. The 945 received in return will contain the information on how your Warehouse/3PL packed their items.

Once Exported from Transaction Manager the 945 will update the Sales Order with what has been fulfilled/invoiced, as well as generate a Shipment complete with Package Details and an Invoice for you.

NOTE: How the Package Details are ultimately packed (and thus the ASN generated) depends entirely on how your Warehouse sends the 945 to you.

Auto Pack

If your Item Package Settings are completed you can use the AutoPack functionality to automatically pack your Shipments with a click of a button based on the configuration.

Navigate: Posted Sales Shipment → (Shipment) → Related → TC AutoPack

NOTE: For this process to work you will need to configure your Item Package Settings.

Manual Packing

If you are generating your Shipments manually, or if your Shipment fails to Pack due to an improper configuration, you can manually pack your Shipment within the Package Details screen and manually complete the information.

Navigate: Posted Sales Shipment → (Shipment) → Related → TC Package Details

NOTE: In order to set the Pallet ID for assigning Pallets, your ASN Type must be set to an option that supports pallets.
