If you're considering moving from Gentran to TrueCommerce's Transaction Manager you may wish to do what's known as a Datadive, a basic checking of some document folder sizes to determine what your estimated cost may be based on the volume of the data.

Grabbing the Data

In order to calculate the data, you'll first need to get the file size of some months that are both high flow and low-flow for both the incoming and the out-going data as one may be heavier than the other

Recommendation: To get the most recent data accuracy, you'll want to start with last month and work your way back about 12 months into last year if need be. While 12-Months is recommended, a minimum of 6 can be used for a rougher estimate.

Note: Each year, month, and day have their own respective folder, and are located both in the IntIn for Inbound and IntOut for Outbound folders within the Gentran Server

Calculation Sheet

You'll want to grab the excel sheet and save it to your machine - this will do the calculations automatically for you, all you have to do is select your months and input the data into the appropriate green columns - the rest will auto-calculate based on the inputted data.

Inbound Data

To grab the inbound data, you'll want to navigate to C:\GENSRVNT\IntIn and locate last month's data, and work your way backwards a year. Select the month you wish to calculate, and Right Click β†’ Properties on the respective folder month. This will begin allowing Windows to determine the size of the folder.

Once the folder finishes calculating, you'll want to mark down the Size rather than the Size on Disk as it's more accurate to your actual data (although typically both sizes are very close to each other, and thus you may use whatever is larger if you wish to be on the safe size).

Place this data into the spreadsheet within the IN (MB) which is highlighted in green (Column C)

Do this for at a minimum of 6 months (12 is recommended)

Outbound Data

You'll want to repeat the same steps within the C:\GENSRVNT\intOut folder - selecting the same year as the Inbound data, and marking at a minimum the size of 6 months within the Spreadsheet into OUT (MB) marked in green (Column D)

Submitting the Results

Once you have the information filled out - you'll want to save the file, and send it to your Account Manager for an estimation.
