Sometimes when you're troubleshooting an issue you'll want to investigate into the Event Viewer as that can provide a lot of information about what went wrong with the system at a deeper level.

The information from an Event Log can provide information regarding faulting modules, missing dependencies, permission blocks, login failures and more providing a lot of insight into something that may not be obvious through your usual application usage.

Launching Windows Event Viewer

You can find the Event Viewer simply by searching for Event Viewer within your Windows search bar - alternatively you can find it in the Windows Administrative Tools group within your Start Menu.

Application Logs

The Application events listed under the Windows Logs group will show errors from all Applications within your environment - these are useful for things such as crashing applications or services (such as TrueCommerce's integration service) that can provide key information on why something may be failing.

System Logs

The System events listed under the Windows Log group will show errors from Windows operating system itself - often showing issues that may be caused by faulting global systems that can cause applications depending on those systems to work to also fail.

Applications and Services Logs

You can always check the Applications and Services Log group for more specific systems, sometimes applications or services will create their own event logs allowing for additional information to be passed into it that would not be present in the Applications or System log

Saving a Log

If you need to save a log to have it referenced later, or to send it to one of our TrueCommerce technicians to be reviewed you can do so easily by opening your needed log, and then using the Save All Events As.. option under the actions menu

Select: Event Log (Application, System, etc)

Select: Save All Events As..

Enter: Filename / save location

Select: English as desired language

Note: If Display Info is not enabled - required details may end up missing when viewed by TrueCommerce

Gathering Event Logs

It is recommended that you grab the Applications and the System event logs with any specific Application/Services log as often they provide additional needed details.
